Samsung Galaxy SIII LTEAnalysts ABI Research have estimated around 103 Million 4G LTE mobile devices were shipped in 2012

We may have only just got 4G but the rest of the World has been using 4G for quite sometime and it’s all down to Apple and Samsung. According to ABI Apple’s iPhone 5 and Samsung’s Galaxy smartphones provided a substantial lift to the LTE-enabled handset shipments in 2012 however the move to 4G isn’t as quick as the carriers predicted.

The reason we’re not all moving up to 4G is that we’re happy with our 3G phones and that’s worrying the carriers. Back in 2003 and 2004 when 3G was new to the market we were only to happy to throw out our old 2G phones and there was pretty much a 1:1 correlation between a 3G handset sold and a subscription upgraded from 2G to 3G. “That is not happening with every LTE handset sale,” said Jake Saunders, VP – Forecasting at ABI Research. “But carriers should not be panicking – it is seeding the market with 4G handsets. A number of purchasers are simply coveting their favorite “Brand” and/or carrying out a much needed update to one of their key fashion accessories.”
